The biggest music box set has been announced. Mozart 225: The New Complete Edition is 200 CDs of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's collected works, which is being released to note 225 years since the composer's death. It's out October 28, as Billboard reports. The CDs contain 240 hours of music, comprising four sections: Chamber (solo work), Orchestral (symphonies and concertos), Theatre (operas), and Sacred, Private & Supplement (fragments). As Billboard points out, that comes to 15,000 minutes of music over 4,000 tracks. It also comes with two books, one of which is a new biography of the composer.

The box set will be released by Decca and Deutsche Grammophon in partnership with the Salzburg Mozarteum Foundation and Mozart scholar Cliff Eisen, who also wrote the new biography. Additionally, a 33-DVD collection of every Mozart opera and 3xCD collection of Mozart "singles" will be released in conjunction with the box set.

Previously, the largest CD box set for a classical artist was a compilation of Arthur Rubinstein recordings, according to Guinness. That one came in at a puny 142 discs.
