HBO has announced via their Medium page that Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine will be the subject of a new four-part documentary miniseries called “The Defiant Ones,” Complex reports. Directed by Allen Hughes (Menace II Society, Dead Presidents, The Book of Eli), the documentary will look at Dre and Iovine’s life stories and the history of their partnership.

Hughes filmed the “The Defiant Ones” over a “a three-year period,” and it will feature “extensive interviews” with Dre and Iovine, as well as interviews with “Bono, David Geffen, Eminen, Nas, Ice Cube, Gwen Stefani, Jon Landau, Tom Petty, Trent Reznor, Snoop Dogg, Bruce Springsteen and will.i.am,” according to HBO’s announcement. The documentary also includes “never-before-seen footage from a multitude of recording and writing sessions with Eazy-E, JJ Fad, Stevie Nicks, N.W.A., Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen and U2, among others.” “The Defiant Ones” will debut in 2017.

Two years ago, Dre and Iovine’s venture Beats Electronics was purchased by Apple. Since then, the pair have worked to launch and lead Apple’s streaming platform Apple Music. Last year, Dr. Dre helped produce the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton, which resulted in the making of his first album in over a decade, Compton.
