Phoenix Pay Tribute to “Absolute Genius” Philippe Zdar

On the Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix producer: “Philippe was legendary.”

Philippe Zdar—legendary producer, DJ, and one-half of French electronic duo Cassiusdied last week at age 52. Many artists who worked and admired with Zdar have offered tributes. Now, Phoenix—who worked with Zdar on their breakout 2009 album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix—have written one of their own.

“Philippe was legendary,” they wrote. “Of course, our music owes him so much, he who spent hundreds and hundreds of hours lifting us up with the breath of his talent, his enthusiasm and his kindness.⁣⁣ But much more, he taught us that you could raise your life, friendship, love to the rank of major art. In all these areas he was an absolute genius.”
