With artists releasing songs at a fast and furious pace, it’s difficult for the average hip-hop head to keep track of it all—no matter how tapped in they are. That’s why we created The Ones, a daily post to highlight the song you need to hear.

Damedot - “Bagathon”

Glamourized depictions of organized crime have fascinated rappers for decades: Raekown was referencing John Woo’s The Killer and Sergio Leone’s Once Upon a Time In America in ’95, and JAY released American Gangster in ’07. Damedot is no different—many of his past songs begin with Meadow Soprano asking Tony Soprano, “Are you in the mafia?” He gives the sound drop a break on “Bagathon,” but he’s still committed to capturing the lifestyle. Over a beat that moves in slow motion, he smoothly raps, “Got so many phones, feds sick they can’t tap me up.” Damedot’s obsession is slightly dated, but he’s a good enough rapper to pull it off.
