Last night, Patti Smith performed at the Democracy Now! 20th anniversary event in New York City. She opened her set by dedicating “Peaceable Kingdom” to victims of the warehouse party fire in Oakland as well as young activists and journalists who have lost their lives. “When you look at the pictures of all them—brimming with such hope—we need our young people,“ Smith said, “We pin our faith on them.” Michael Stipe joined her for the closing number, “People Have the Power.” Watch the full set below.
