Prince’s estate Paisley Park has announced its first-ever battle of the bands competition, Musicology (which shares a name with Prince’s 2004 album). Nine artists will be selected from video submissions to compete from August 31—September 3 at Paisley Park in Chanhassen, Minnesota, with the focus of the event being “Real Music by Real Musicians.” Of those nine acts, three will make it to the finals, and one final winner will be awarded recording time in Prince’s studio, a “mentorship session” with members of Prince’s New Power Generation band, and “additional career development opportunities soon to be announced.” Bands and artists can apply to participate here—the deadline for entries is July 30. Tickets to attend the battle of the bands are also available, with single-day passes beginning at $100. The ticket fee also includes a tour of the Paisley Park museum.
