Earlier this year, Stereogum founder Scott Lapatine reacquired the music website from its former parent company and the site became fully independent. As Lapatine recently outlined in a Twitter thread, the COVID-19 pandemic has greatly affected Stereogum’s revenue. Now, the site has launched an Indiegogo campaign, asking readers for some help “to survive this tough time,” as Lapatine wrote in a blog post.

Among the offerings for Indiegogo contributors is a new compilation that finds over 40 artists covering songs from the 2000s. Contributors to the album, called Save Stereogum: An ’00s Covers Comp, include Mac DeMarco, the National, Dirty Projectors, Sharon Van Etten, and Waxahatchee. The compilation is available exclusively through the Indiegogo campaign and will be available to download in September. Preview Save Stereogum below and contribute at Indiegogo.

Donations to the Save Stereogum fund will keep the staff and freelancers employed, reduce ad content, support a redesign of the site, and secure the archives of videogum.com, their defunct film and television sister site. Other Indiegogo rewards include Stereogum t-shirts, an invitation to the Zoom launch party for the compilation, and a limited edition merch bundle. The highest donation earns a custom entry in “The Number Ones,” a column by former Pitchfork contributor Tom Breihan.
