Spotify has announced it has begun beta-testing a new functionality that would allow artists to upload their music directly to the streaming service. To date, artists have had to use traditional distributors or third-party companies (Tunecore, Distrokid, Stem) to get their music on the platform. With the new direct upload feature—currently in beta—artists will be able to upload their music, select release dates, and edit metadata the same way they’re able to with any distributor. (One artist to already use the service is Noname, who used it to upload her latest album Room 25, according to Spotify.)

More independent artists will be invited to try the feature before it’s made available to the general public. Find more information on the direct upload feature here.
