The first single from Mura Masa’s upcoming LP, To Fall Out of Love To

The Guernsey-born, London-based producer Mura Masa (aka Alex Crossan) has, at the ripe old age of 20, racked up an impressive roster of collaborators, given that his oldest Soundcloud songs date back to just three years ago. He’s worked with the likes of A$AP Rocky and Nao, he’s been remixed by Four Tet and Mumdance, and his original tracks have garnered millions of plays. With “1 Night,” the first single off his upcoming debut LP To Fall Out of Love To, Masa justifies his swift ascent with a well-executed tropical bop featuring Charli XCX.

Masa finds an ideal collaborator in Charli, whose nostalgic, lucid vocals shine through the ample space his breezy steel-drum beat and harp arpeggios provide. Masa’s simple and restrained production elevates “1 Night” above more maudlin pop fare. As of late, Charli’s been preoccupied with partying until early morning and all kinds of excess, but here she’s open and vulnerable to new love. “It was only night/But I want to go back to where we were,” she sings. Masa and Charli’s “1 Night” distills the longing and brief joy of a short lived romance over the course of a sunny, undeniably catchy few minutes.
