Drake has released his follow-up to last year’s Certified Lover Boy. It’s called Honestly, Nevermind. The new LP includes 14 songs, and was executive produced by Drake, longtime collaborator Noah “40” Shebib, Drake’s manager Oliver El-Khatib, Noel Cadastre, and 2022 Grammy winner Black Coffee. 21 Savage is the album’s sole credited featured artist, appearing on the closing “Jimmy Cooks.” The album is dedicated to the late Virgil Abloh, and, on Apple Music, it is categorized under the dance genre. Honestly, Nevermind features extensive production from Black Coffee, Gordo, Alex Lustig (who also plays keys on “Calling My Name”), and Beau Nox (who co-wrote and produced several songs, plays guitar on “Overdrive,” and sings on “Flights Booked,” “Tie That Binds,” and “Down Hill”). Congolese singer Mukengerwa “Tresor” Riziki appears as an additional vocalist on “Currents,” “Down Hill,” and “Tie That Binds.” The album was engineered by Noah “40” Shebib, Luca Pretolesi, and Noel Cadastre.

The rapper announced his new LP on Instagram yesterday evening (June 16). The post simply included an image of the album art with the caption: “7th studio album ‘Honestly, Nevermind’ out at midnight.” He followed up that post with another displaying the tracklist. Drake played the new album early Friday morning on his brand new SiriusXM Sound 42 show Table for One. And, shortly after the record’s release, he shared the music video for “Falling Back.”

As he did with Certified Lover Boy, Drake shared a note on Apple Music to accompany the new album Honestly, Nevermind:

I let my humbleness turn to numbness at times letting time go by knowing I got the endurance to catch it another time

I work with every breath in my body cause it’s the work not air that makes me feel alive

That’s some real detrimental shit but that’s that shit my perfectionist mind doesn’t really mind because no one knows whats on my mind when I go to sleep at 9 & wake up at 5 - unless I say it in rhyme

I can’t remember the last time someone put they phone down, looked me in the eyes and asked my current insight on the times

But I remember every single time someone shined a light in my eyes

I purposely try to forget what went on between some ppl and I because I know I’m not a forgiving guy even when I try

My urge for revenge wins the game against my good guy inside every single fckn time

I got plans I can’t talk about with more than like 4 guys because the last time I shared em with someone on the outside…well that’s another story for another night

I was tryna get thru that statement to get to saying I’m not @ a time in my life where pats on the shoulder help get me by

I’ll take loyalty over an oh my & emoji fire

I know if it was a dark night where all the odds were against my side & my skill went to whoever took my life they’d done me off with a big smile & maybe evn post it for some likes

I know everyone that tells me they love me doesn’t love me all the time especially when im doing better than alright & they have to watch it from whatever point they at in their life

I got here being realistic

I didn’t get here being blind

I know whats what and especially what and who is by my side

Honestly…Nevermind.

Drake released his sixth solo studio album, Certified Lover Boy, in September of 2021. It was initially slated to arrive in January of that year, but it was delayed following surgery for a knee injury Drake sustained in the fall of 2020. When it finally arrived several months later, the LP swiftly shot to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, overtaking Kanye West’s Donda with what was at the time the biggest debut week of 2021. Following the record’s release, Drake shared music videos for “Way 2 Sexy” and “Knife Talk.”

Drake’s goofy “Way 2 Sexy” clip was directed by frequent collaborator Dave Meyers, who captured the rapper depicting numerous “sexy” archetypes. Drake portrayed a workout video instructor, a cartoon, an older guy at the beach, a romance novel protagonist, an action hero, and a cologne spokesman in the visual. The clip also starred Toronto Raptor Kawhi Leonard, as well as featured artists Future and Young Thug.

Drake’s “Knife Talk” music video was a bit more simple; Pablo Rochat’s visual included archival clips, vintage cartoons, and grainy security cam footage of Drake, alongside featured MCs 21 Savage and Project Pat, all of whom brandished large kitchen knives.

In November 2021, the Recording Academy nominated Drake for Best Rap Album (for Certified Lover Boy) and Best Rap Performance (for “Way 2 Sexy”) at the 2022 Grammy Awards. Not long after, Drake withdrew himself from contentious for the awards. Drake, who has won four Grammys, has been critical of the academy in the past.

Around the same time, Drake and Kanye West officially squashed their longstanding beef. The two men appeared in a photo together alongside J Prince; its caption was simply the dove of peace emoji. Days later, the rappers announced a one-off benefit concert titled “Free Larry Hoover.” The show took place on December 9 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California, and streamed live on Amazon.

After cooling his Certified Lover Boy rollout, Drake appeared on Future’s latest album I Never Liked You, which dropped in April. Drake contributed to “Wait for U” and “I’m on One.” Drake also starred in the music video for the former, which took place in medieval times (the historic period, not the restaurant).

Certified Lover Boy marked the full-length follow-up to 2018’s Scorpion. In between those two LPs, Drake dropped Dark Lane Demo tapes, which landed in 2020, as well as his 2019 compilation Care Package.
